Sheriff Larry Busby said his office received a call at 12:16 p.m. Sunday about a body in the ditch along FM 3612, about 75 yards east of the intersection with U.S. 281.
The body was that of a woman approximately 30 years of age, Busby said. No cause of death has been determined, but there were no obvious signs of injury.
Deputies found a voter card and bus pass from Veracruz, Mexico, leading Busby to say that she was probably entering the country illegally and was dumped on the roadside.
On Aug. 4, deputies responding to a report found the body of a Guatemalan in the ditch under the I-37 overpass on FM 799.
Preliminary autopsy results from the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s office indicate the man died from dehydration and exposure, Busby said.
“He was probably dumped there from a load of illegals,” Busby said.
He said law enforcement officers in Goliad County recent found the body of a Guatemalan.
Busby said he doesn’t recall any similar deaths last year, although “two or three have shown up over the years.”
