On Saturday, June 29 a benefit team roping was held in GW, with all proceeds going toward sending Flores to the finals rodeo.
Residents from Live Oak County and surrounding areas have shown their support by giving their time and money at events like the team roping.
The benefit roping winners were Robert Martinez of Beeville, winning of the saddle for the #9 roping, and winners of the #11 roping were Trey and Seth Lopez also of Beeville.
When asked about qualifying for the finals, Hondo explained that at the beginning of the year this was the goal he set for himself, and now he just wants to do well.
Hondo will be attending Wharton County Community College on a partial scholarship for which he will be competing on the schools rodeo team in both bullriding and team roping.
The Flores family expressed their deep gratitude for all the community support Hondo has received since qualifying for the finals.
The roping was made possible by Mr. and Mrs. Gable Martinez who donated the use of the arena. Leroy Martinez and Katie Umphres donated their time to assist with the event and NA Productions provided the cattle.
Donations are still needed, contributions can be sent to P.O. Box 94 George West, Texas 78022 or call 361-449-5922.
