Cox was born on Dec. 31, 1926 to Emory and Betty Longoria Cox in Sandia.
He served in the Navy during the Korean War and retired as foreman from Richman Steel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Hazel Mussmann Cox, second wife Ailene Tullis Cox, adopted brother James “Tobe” David, and adopted son Johnny Ray Shives.
Survivors include his son Danny Shives, grandchildren Jondell Shives and Anna Marie Shives, three nephews and numerous extended family.
Services will be held on July 11 at Three Rivers Cemetery with arrangements by Galloway and Sons Funeral Directors.
Donations in memory of Emory Walter Cox can be made to the Texas Children’s Hospital.
