The Lion’s Club is a service organization designed to help the community through many projects.
Each year the Lions also present scholarships to worthy students of Three Rivers High School. This year’s scholarship recipients are Lacey McNeill, Angelica Sauceda and Brittany Shipman.
Darling has been a mainstay in the community. His level of services include being the Pastor of the Good Hope Baptist Church, and, most recently, he is credited with bringing the Haven of Rest mission to fruition.
His longtime friend, Jacky Stroleny, wrote a poem about him and his service.
The Lion of the Year award was presented to Evelyn Ballou for her work in the community and in the club.
This year’s officers are: President, Pete Alexieff, Vice President, Evelyn Ballou, Secretary, Jerry Wheeler and Treasurer, Judy Weber.
A Darling Servant’s Heart
There is a great man among us, about this we all agree,
By most he is known as Dave, but is known lovingly as Poppy to me.
His righteous deeds are noticed, by those from far and near,
That is why this Godly man, is held by all as dear.
His labors are done humbly; he needs no pay or praise,
All he does is for the Lord, for now and all of his days.
His vision for helping others is limitless indeed.
As he helps and loves each one, he sees it as planting seeds.
From Good Hope Baptist Church; to the Mission called Haven of Rest.
For him both of these ministries must help others have the best.
The best they can have is Jesus; and His great love in their hearts.
Dave gives the most important things that gave these ministries their start.
If anyone is needy; the first ones that we call,
Are Pastor Dave and Lucy, they seem to have time for all.
They give and give to anyone; regardless of the cost.
But to them there is no sacrifice, to seek and help the lost.
The world that we live in; is such a better place,
With Godly servants like Dave; showing me and others God’s grace.
Dave, we give thanks to God, for all the things that you do.
We hope we can one day live, the example set by you.
Your smiling face and caring ways seem to never tire.
It lifts us up and gives us hope, you always do inspire.
But Dave would say, “Don’t follow me; only follow Him.”
In doing this, your life will count, and your candle will not go dim.
Let’s all strive to do our best, just as Dave has done.
God will be pleased and will welcome us, at the final setting sun.
Thanks, Dave, for a true example of how the Savior lived.
Help us, Lord, to never, ever be afraid to give.
