The A.C. Jones High Lady Trojan varsity volleyball season opened on Tuesday night with the Beeville girls hosting the Yoakum Lady Bulldogs.

The visitors blanked the home team in three straight as the Lady Trojans had trouble scoring after a competitive first game in the best of five match.

Game one was a closely played affair. The Lady Bulldogs got off to a fast start and led 4-0 but a a four-point run off the serve of Theresa Amador put the Lady Trojans right back into it and gave the Beeville girls an early 5-4 lead.

It remained close the rest of the way. Yoakum pulled back in front by one or two and held their biggest lead at 14-10 before the Lady Trojans outscored the visitors 6-2 over the next few minutes to tie the game at 16 all.

A long serve broke the Beeville run and gave the lead back to Yoakum and they would not relinquish their hold the rest of the way.

The Lady Bulldogs went on a 9-3 run to close out the first game 25-19 for a 1-0 lead.

Game two was close early as the teams were all square at 4-4. The Lady Bulldogs then exploited some defenses lapses by the Lady Trojans into long scoring runs. An 11-0 run made it a 22-7 Yoakum lead late and the Lady Bulldogs easily captured game two, 25-10.

The problems on defense continued and the offense also sputtered in game three as the Yoakum girls rolled to a 25-4 victory and a 3-0 win in the match.

The Lady Trojans are competing in the CCISD Spikefest this weekend in Corpus Christi and will get several matches to work on their game.

Next Tuesday evening, the Lady Trojans will be back in Corpus Christi to play the Ray Lady Texans. The freshman contest is set for 3 p.m. with the JV girls taking the floor at 4. The varsity match will begin at approximately 5 o’clock.
