Vets honored on July 4th

Veterans and families of Veterans came from all over Karnes County to be honored and remembered at the Runge Independence Day Celebration Thursday, July 4th. The celebration began at 9 a.m. at the Runge VFW with opening ceremonies including an Honor Guard, singing of our National Anthem, a Wall of Honor, Laying of a Wreath and the playing of Taps. Roll Call was presented by Veterans Service Officer Alex Caballero, of Karnes County and Sgt. At Arms, Alfredo G. “Tito” Vidaurri of Karnes County. Presentation’s were then made from the Runge Mayor Homer Lott, Karnes County Judge Barbara Shaw and a Mike Bustamante from District 14 of the American Legion of Stockdale.

The July 4th Runge Parade winners are Best Theme Float: Honor Our Vets, American Legion Veterans/Runge CoC Float; Best Float 2nd Place: Kenedy Bluebonnet Days Queens Court; Best Float 1st Place: Karnes County Historical Society; Best Commercial Vehicle 2nd Place: Serrano Brothers Marine Corp., 1983 Chevy pick up; Best Commercial Vehicle 1st Place: Hochheim Prairie Insurance, Veterans Float; Best Car/Truck 2nd Place: Jayson Streeter, maroon 1958 Buick; Best Car/Truck 1st Place – Serrano Bros. Const. Co. 1946 Chevy coup; Best Music/Dance/Band 2nd Place: Ms. Karnes County, Kenedy Rotary; Best Music/Dance/Band 1st Place: Futurity First; Best Equestrian Entry 2nd Place: Portwood, Portwood, Portwood and Weilding; Best Equestrian Entry 1st Place: Brook Polston and Outlaw.
