It was Goliad's first girls regional track and field title since 1982.
Goliad's Avery Zamzow qualified for the state meet in four events by winning the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 3/4 inch, finishing second in the 200-meter dash in 25.44 seconds and teaming with Ashtin Zamzow, Demari Ellis and Alexius Perry to win the 400 relay 48.8 seconds. Carlee Howard ran on the relay team in Friday's preliminaries to help the Tigerettes advance to Saturday's finals.
The 800 relay team of Avery Zamzow, Ashtin Zamzow, Perry and Howard won with a regional meet record time of 1:43.5. Ellis ran on the team in the preliminaries.
"This was a total team effort, especially by Danielle Garza, Carlee Howard, and Demari Ellis, who ran on the relays in the prelims allowing us to rest girls so we would be fresh for the finals," James Zamzow said.
Avery Zamzow finished fourth in the high jump by clearing 5-2.
Howard was fifth in the pole vault (9-0), Perry was fifth in the 100 (12.9) and the 1,600 relay team of Ellis, Kristie Coles, Hailey Hale and Katy Salziger finished fifth (4:16.0).
