While waiting for the football season kickoff and the return of cooler weather, a trio of upcoming special events has piqued the interest of many residents.

First, country music fans are encouraged to dust off their cowboy hats, shine up their boots and get ready for some fun. The Almost Patsy Cline Band from Bandera is returning to town to bring some good music and goodwill to the Beeville Country Club on Saturday, Aug. 24.

The acclaimed band will perform from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. and is being sponsored here by the Hall-Rialto Preservation Association as a fundraiser for the Rialto Theater. Everyone is invited to support the community project of refurbishing the historic downtown theater. Those in attendance also may view items on display in a silent auction.

Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served and a cash bar will be available. Tickets are $75 each and may be purchased at Hogue’s Jewelry, Libby Spires Tax Office, Wicker Basket and a Place for Paws.

Next, on Thursday, Aug. 29, Dr. James Hoffmeier will deliver two riveting and informative lectures about the Bible, archaeology and history, and the Israelite Exodus from Egypt in this one-night only engagement.

Hosted by the Coastal Bend College Foundation and CBC Social Sciences Division, the event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Gertrude R. Jones Auditorium on the CBC campus.

Tickets are available exclusively online at http://cbclectureseries.eventbrite.com. Adult tickets are $12 each and student tickets (with ID) are $7 apiece.

A VIP dinner includes a catered, Texas style BBQ feast from 4:30-5:30 p.m. with Dr. Hoffmeier. VIP ticket holders also will have a seat reserved for them within the first rows of the auditorium. Less than 20 VIP tickets are available.

Then, on Sunday, Sept. 8, the Bee County Habitat for Humanity affiliate will host its first general public fundraiser, a chicken barbecue dinner, at Faith Lutheran Church.

With considerable help from the Gulf Coast Chapter of Thrivent and men at Faith Lutheran, barbecue plates will be served from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the church, 1500 E. FM 351, either by drive through or dine in.

Tickets are $7 each and can be purchased from Don Taylor (362-3443), Bee Agricultural Co. (358-3470), here at Beeville Publishing Co. (358-2550) or from members of the Bee Habitat board of directors. They hope to begin their first home build next year.

These offerings should appeal to a multitude in this community, perhaps beyond, and take our minds off the heat for a while.
