Another successful Summer Reading Club has come to an end at the Falls City Public Library. The staff is pleased to report that out of the 70 kids that signed up, 54 of them received their certificates of completion.

The program started May 28 and lasted through June 28 with several activities and programs offered in between. Arts and crafts included creating sand art and making “shrinky dink” necklaces and a lot of other interesting items. The Texas State Aquarium paid a visit with a live turtle display and program about the turtles and tortoises found in the ocean, in fresh water, and on dry land. Afterward, all the kids got take a hands on look at the live turtles and were able to touch their shells. Magician Spikey Mikey presented his always popular I Love to Read magic show to the delight of all present. There were a lot of people scratching their heads and wondering, "How did he do that?" Spikey Mikey had a couple of helpers from the audience and ended his show telling the kids how he got interested in magic by checking out books from the library.

On Friday, June 28, certificates were awarded to the successful summer readers and then a drawing for door prizes was held. It just so happened that everyone present got a door prize and some even were lucky enough to win two.

The Falls City Public Library and staff expressed appreciation to the City of Falls City, the Busy Beaver, Pollok's Deli, the Palace Cafe, and the Dickie Dziuk Family for their donations to the library and for their support of its programs also, to the parents and caregivers for bringing the kids to the library and seeing to it that they could be here for the activities.

The library is already looking forward to next summer and hopes to see everyone again as well as a lot of new faces, too. And remember, just because the Summer Reading Club is over, that doesn't mean you have to stop coming to the library. We have a lot of new books that you might have missed when you visited before that are just waiting for you to check out and enjoy. Come back to see us.
