Growing up in South Louisiana, I looked forward to the summertime. It was a time away from school and organized learning. It allowed me and my friends to play all day and stay up late at night.
We would go to the community parks and playgrounds for summer sports and activities. But as much as we anticipated summertime with its easy living, we would have to content with heat and hurricanes. Living in the southern states, particularly Louisiana and Texas, you can expect days with 100-plus degree weather and storms that could destroy property and lives. We would have to make sure that we had a place of shade from the heat and shelter from the storms.
The same truth applies to our lives. There is a need for a place to go to for relief and shade from the heat of life. We need a place where we can run to for shelter from the storms that can overtake us spiritually even physically. The Lord promises that He will provide for those who seek him to be a shade and shelter.
Listen to the words of the Prophet Isaiah, “There will be a shelter to give shade from the heat by day, and refuge and protection from the storm and the rain.”
The God of Glory promises to be a source of protection from the elements of life that seek to sap their strength or wash them away by the rains of adversity. God is faithful to shade and shelter the faithful who place their trust in Him.
As you and I approach the beginning of the summer months with its forecasted record heat and hurricanes, let us be mindful to know where you can find shade and shelter from the elements. So to with your soul, you can find shade and shelter in Jesus Christ.
Have a great summer.
