The state’s top ranked 2A football team paid a visit to Skidmore-Tynan’s Bobcat Stadium on Halloween night and things got scary for the hometown ‘Cats right from the start as Refugio ran, or maybe it should be passed, to a 42-0 halftime lead over S-T.

The visiting Bobcats scored three touchdowns in both first and second periods.

“Refugio is a great team with high chances of playing in late December this year. We had to have things go good early and they did not,” said S-T head coach Adam Arroyo.

The Bee County Bobcats did get on the scoreboard late in the game as Adam Perez ran one in for a touchdown from five yards out and with the Gavin Vandever’s PAT the Bobcat avoided the shutout. The Refugio ‘Cats held things in check over the second half and refused to pile it on any more. The S-T defense played tough football in that second half.

“We never gave in and actually outscored them in the second half,” Arroyo said.

Refugio’s Bobcats used their aerial game to subdue the S-T team. Hitting on 21 of 32 passes for 223 yards, mostly in the first half, the RHS team showed why they are the top-ranked team in state Class 2A.

S-T ran for 132 yards with Carter Jordan gaining 49 yards on 17 attempts. Alex Gonzalez had 13 carries for 73 yards for the Bobcats.

The Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats do have a shot at the playoffs, if they win in Odem on Friday night.

“This week we are in a position no one really thought this young team would find themselves. Win and we are in,” said Arroyo.

“I know our guys will be up for the challenge and our coaches worked on a good plan for the Owls. They are coming in with the same record as us. We hope to have good practices all week and execute our plan Friday night.”

The kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Odem.
