Pre-sale carnival armbands available

Pre-sale carnival armband tickets are available for $15.

A pre-sale ticket is good for one of the following times:  Thursday, March 14 from 5 to 11 p.m.; Friday, March 15 from 5 to 11 p.m.; Saturday, March 16 from noon to 6 p.m.; or Saturday, March 16 from 5 to 11 p.m.   

Pre-sale armbands are available at the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension office or Ag-Med Supply. Armband costs at the carnival will be $20.

Tickets will be on sale until Friday, March 8 on a cash-only basis.

GCFA workdays

Saturday, March 9 is the final workday for the Goliad County Fair Association.

Volunteers needed

Volunteers are needed during the Friday and Saturday dances at the Goliad County Fair.

Volunteers will be given a choice of a free rodeo ticket or Cowboy Camp pass. Contact Sherry Reiley for more information at slreiley@yahoo.com.

4-H Connect deadlines

The district photography deadline is March 12 and the district roundup deadline is March 25. Check the District 11 website for information.

9-1-1 signs

Another order will be placed for 9-1-1 signs. Members can call the Goliad County Extension Office to place orders.

CDM contest

Seven  Goliad County 4-H members traveled to San Antonio to participate in the San Antonio Livestock Show Consumer Decision-Making Contest held Feb. 16. 

Senior team members included Kendra Webel, Holly Gaskamp, Ethan Whaley and Kassidy Bego.  Junior team members were Rebecca Johnson, David Stewart and Mateo Martinez. 

Webel placed sixth and was only 10 points from a $15,000 scholarship. This was her first competition.

After spring break, practice for district will begin.  The district contest will be April 11 in Hallettsville.  Anyone who would like to participate can contact Debbie Bego at 645-4514. 

Ambassdor short courses

The Texas 4-H Livestock Ambassador program strives to provide high school-aged 4-H members the opportunity to develop and practice advanced leadership skills related to mentoring other youth, and to become advocates for animal agriculture.  

It prepares youth to serve in leadership capacities in junior livestock programs across Texas; prepares youth for the experience of the university setting, through intensive science based instruction and experiences; prepares and provide opportunities for youth to serve in advocacy roles for animal agriculture,   4-H, and junior livestock programs; and develops a heightened awareness of career opportunities in animal agriculture and advocacy.

The program will be held at Texas A&M University on July 15-18. Cost is $200. Another program will be held at Texas Tech University on July 22-24 for a cost of $150.

Weesatche 4-H 5K walk/run

The Weesatche 4-H Club is hosting its first 5K walk/run Saturday, April 27 beginning at the Fannin Monument in Goliad.  

Members are seeking sponsors for the event. Those interested in sponsoring the event can contact any Weesatche 4-H Club member or the 5K walk/run organizers, Ashlyn and Rhett Davis at 894-342.

Extension programs serve people of all ages regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, sex, religion, disability, or national origin.
