The competition consists of a 70-question, 30-minute timed test with 35 computation problems and 35 stated and geometry problems. At this grueling competition, Eric Montez placed first; Lane Kruger placed second; Casey Jones placed third, and Brittany Treviño placed ninth. The team placed first and will compete in the state competition on May 21 at the University of Texas.
The calculator team has competed at various competitions throughout the 2012-2013 school year. At the Judson High School Invitational, Eric took 1st place; Casey placed 3rd; Brittany came in at 5th place, and Lane made a good showing, taking 7th. The Pettus High School team earned 1st place.
During the Poth High School Invitational, Eric Montez again took 1st, Casey Jones 3rd, Lane Kruger 6th, Brittany Trevino 7th, and Hana Kruger 12th. The team accomplished 2nd place during this invitational.
While competing in the Best of Texas, Eric held on to 1st; Casey obtained 3rd; Lane held 8th place, and Brittany took 11th place. Again, the team took 1st place. Eric is in 1st place for the Senior Division, while Casey holds 3rd place in the Senior Division. Lane is 2nd in Junior Division, while his sister, Hana, is 2nd in the Freshman Division.
The District 28A Competition that allowed the team to advance to regionals had Montez placing 1st; Kruger in 3rd; Jones held on to 4th, and Treviño rounded out the team’s win with 6th place. Overall, the Pettus High School Calculator Applications Team placed first at the district competition.
