CORPUS CHRISTI – The two Lady Trojans at the state powerlifting meet fared quite well as both girls brought home bronze medals for third place in their weight divisions.

“The girls competed well at the state meet in Corpus Christi this past weekend,” said head powerlifting coach Rudy Valerio.

Alexis Pelitire captured the third place medal in the 165-pound class with a three-lift total of 835 pounds.

“It’s always nice to lift at the last meet of the year, especially if you’re a senior, as the case for Alexis Pelitire. She battled the whole meet and stepped up to every challenge that came her way,” Valerio said.

“She went into the meet ranked sixth in her division and came out the third best, surpassing three other girls that were ranked in front of her. It was a blast coaching her all season long.”

Ashley Olivarez, a sophomore, also brought home the bronze medal in her 220-pound weight class with a three-lift total of 865 pounds.

“On the other side of the spectrum, Ashley Olivarez is just a sophomore and we expect big things from her in the years to come,” Valerio said.

Coach Valerio also expressed his appreciation for the help of former Trojans Marcelo Garcia, Adam Aleman and Liz Segovia.
