CONVERSE – Lady Eagle Anna Elder ran her way to the state track and field meet in Austin this year.

She showed great strength and endurance in the regional meet in Converse last Saturday as she ran her 400-meter dash in 60.03 seconds for a second place finish, ensuring a trip to the next round, at state.

The top two qualifiers advance to the state meet which will be held on May 10-11 at Mike Myers Stadium at the University of Texas at Austin.

Elder also placed third in the long jump at the Region IV meet with a leap of 16-11, close to her personal best of 17-2.

The Lady Eagle sophomore was also third in the triple jump with a 35-0.75 effort. In the 200-meter dash, the speedy Pettus athlete ran a 26.32 for another bronze medal.

Elder is also in the Spanish Club and has been the Pettus High School mascot, Peagle the Eagle, for the past year.

All of Pettus is excited to see Anna run in the state meet.

“We are certainly very proud of Anna’s track achievements and look for her to continue qualifying for state competition in her junior and senior year in more than just one event,” said Pettus Athletic Director Dan Garza.
