KENEDY – An early morning accident claimed the life of a 19-year-old Karnes County man on Thursday, March 1.

The accident happened about two miles east of Kenedy at a location on State Highway 239 south of the intersection of State Highway 72 and State Highway 239.

According to information from the Department of Public Safety, it was shortly after 6 a.m. when a 1998 Kenworth truck, driven by Alejandro Arizpe, pulling a flatbed trailer was struck by a 1998 GMC pickup driven by Tommy “Tray” Vickery III.

The truck and trailer were turning left onto northbound State Highway 239 when leaving a truck yard at the time of the accident.

The pickup struck the right side of the trailer close to the rear wheels.

Vickery, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Karnes County Justice of the Peace Hilda Castro.

The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation but it is believed the morning fog may have been a contributing factor.
