The Karnes City Home and Garden Club met on Thursday, March 21 at El Oso Meeting room in Karnes County. President Gladys Janysek called the meeting to order.

Vice President Marlane Smith gave a speech about trees. She spoke about the fact that trees are strong and tall and remain where they are planted, true to their roots. Marlane received a fragrant rose bush for giving her speech.

Club member Jeff Quinterro continues to assess the needs of the Memorial gardens located across the street from the original courthouse area. Mary Louise Jonas and Johnie Hall are also on this committee. They will continue to make sure the gardens are watered and given proper care. We are very happy that local Boy Scout Troop 115 will also be able to help with the gardens.

Members will be taking a trip to Victoria in April to tour the airport area educational gardens, Dalhart Windberg paintings and other art, then stopping in Goliad at antique and gift shops.

Other news includes a successful raffle, a successful community project for Boy Scout Troop 115 and Yard of the Month award winners: Burke and Julie Braun at 405 E. Crews Street in Karnes City.

Following the meeting an Easter themed social and reception was held complete with sandwiches, chips and dips, pies, cakes and salads. Ellen Ann Vickers and Johnie Hall won the Easter Lillie door prizes.

The annual social and luncheon will be held at Barth’s Restaurant Thursday, May 16 from 1 to 3 p.m. Anyone interested in joining this organization may call Gladys Janysek at 830-780-2483.
