BEEVILLE — A.C. Jones High School Principal Jaime Rodriguez is being reassigned — at his own request.

Next fall, he will be a principal at one of the Beeville Independent School District’s reorganized elementary schools.

He will be replaced by FMC Principal DeeDee Bernal, who previously had expressed her desire to go to the high school.

“Because he lives in Pettus,” explains BISD Superintendent Dr. Sue Thomas, “he feels the workload at an elementary school will allow him to spend more time with his children and family.”

Earlier this year, Rodriguez asked Dr. Thomas to make the switch if the opportunity arose.

This fall, the district’s three elementary schools will be restructured, with each school, respectively, teaching grades 1 and 2, 3 and 4, and 5 and 6.

Sixth-graders will be transferred from the middle school.

Rodriguez became principal at A.C. Jones in 2009; Bernal has been FMC principal for two years.

Thomas does not know which elementary principal, including Rodriguez, will teach at which school but plans to announce it at next month’s regular board meeting.
