Former Refugio County Deputy Tanya Brown was indicted by a Refugio Grand Jury for tampering with a government document when the jury convened on Nov. 14.

If convicted, the former deputy could face a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Brown turned herself in to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department in Port Lavaca, according to Lt. Rodney Cox and Eddie Muscrave, the jail administrator in Calhoun County.

District Attorney Michael Sheppard said the indictment stems from an arrest made by the deputy for driving while intoxicated.

“The allegation is that she falsely reported to a state agency that the suspect had blown on a breathalyzer and failed,” Sheppard said. “The suspect was sober and she had not even administrered the breath test.”

Sheriff Earl Petropoulos said he preferred not to comment in this early stage of the case to prevent jeopardizing the case.

On Nov.25th,2006 deputy tanya brown responded to a neighborhood disturbance call inside Bayside,Texas. When she arrived at the trailer home of retired San Antonio police officer she was greeted by having her fingers injured when the door was slamed before making contact with him.She called for back up but her partner or other officers had a long response time.Several men with the retired policeman stepped out of the trailer and surrounded her.She tried to defused the situation and after threatening the use of the tasser gun , the retired policeman was booked into jail.To this day this neighbor has yet seen a jury or has had a court day that hasn't been postpone. What does that tell you when the job you sworn to follow and preserve and protect will not protect you in need of justice.I am not defending anyone, I'm just letting everyone know that if the police feel that money will help the prosecuting attorneys look the othe way in order that their campaign coffers are filled and of course the attorneys will prolong the court date as long as the judges plays ball with the "good old boys" then deputy Tanya Brown may have to make up her own rules of law.All she needs is my neighbor's lawyer and she can have the same justice.

I for one am looking forward to the outcome of this story, there have been several incidents involving refugio's jailers, deputies etc...

And as in the past they were taken care of accordingly and I trust refugio will not let this kind of crime go unpunished if and when she is found guilty. I don't put anything past anyone these days, church attendance or not.

Knowing someone does not give a person the right to judge them. Strange how people want the help from law enforcement at their time of need but are fast to judge law enforcers in their time of need. Maybe some of you have had encounters with Officer Brown and the results were not in your favor? God Bless you Officer Brown for Protecting and Serving the people!

You can't judge the story til all the facts have been told. Let him without sin cast the first stone.

alocal SO!

It doesn't change the FACT that Tanya Brown was indicted for tampering with a government document. Which brings into question all her past arrests. Her actions tarnishes honest law enforcement.

Kudos, to the Refugio County Grand Jury for not sweeping this under the carpet.
