The Junior High Tennis team had much success at the district tournament in Dilley on Wednesday, April 8.

Ellen Nance placed 6th in 7th grade girls singles after falling to Michelle House from Jourdanton.  In the 8th grade division, Allison Bryce placed 6th in girls’ singles after falling to Kaitlyn Summers (Dilley), the eventual second place winner.  Taylor Brown ended up with 3rd after defeating Brianna Gonzalez (Dilley), but falling to Summers (Dilley).  Sarah Whitley came home as a district champion in girls singles after defeating Katie Gaydos (Jourdanton), Alexis Ruiz (Dilley), and Kaitlyn Summers (Dilley).  In doubles, Amy Garza and Salina Ruiz teamed up to get 2nd place behind George West’s Caysi Holt and Mary Cansino.  Amy and Salina first defeated Sambrano and Martinez (Dilley) before falling to their own teammates, Holt and Cansino.  Caysi and Mary defeated Molina and Gawlick (Dilley) and then went on to claim the district championship in doubles by defeating their very own Garza and Ruiz.  All of the kids played extremely well and I am very proud of all they have accomplished this year!

High School

Congratulations to the high school tennis players for all they accomplished at the district tennis tournament in Dilley on Tuesday, April 7. In the Junior Varsity division, Alex Combs and Justin Bray paired up in doubles to place 5th after being defeated by House and Lopez of Three Rivers (2-8). Yo Han Kang and Mario Rodriguez also paired up to take 4th in doubles after being defeated by Jourdanton’s Tynrak and Huschke (3-8) and then losing a close match to Jourdanton’s Hurt and Gentry (5-8). In varsity tennis, Elizabeth Cansino ended up with 6th place in girls’ singles after losing to the eventual 3rd place winner, Sara Rodriguez (Three Rivers) 3-6, 1-6.  Elizabeth played very well and held a lot of games to deuce, but she just couldn’t get the games to go in her favor. Frank Alvarez played boys singles but lost in a devastating match against the eventual 3rd place winner, Raul Hernandez (Dilley) 3-6, 0-6. Frank ended the district tournament with 5th place. Luke Sehlke came out with a grand performance and earned 2nd place after defeating Randall Ruel (Dilley) 6-3, 6-1, falling to Konstantin Gross (Jourdanton) 2-6, 1-6, and shutting out Dilley’s Raul Hernandez in a playback match. Kathryn Davenport also wowed the crowd in a superb performance on Tuesday as she dominated the girls’ singles division taking home the district championship. Davenport defeated Krissy Arnst (Three Rivers) 6-1, 6-1 and Ilyssa Cruz (Jourdanton) 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.  Katheryn Cansino and Arriel Millermon paired up to take over the girls’ doubles division to bring home the district championship by conquering Three Rivers’ Lea Luna and Kenda Escamilla 6-0, 6-0, and Jourdanton’s Schuchart and Delrossa 6-0, 6-1. All of the tennis players played very well at district and we look forward to great things next year.  Luke Sehlke, Kathryn Davenport, Katheryn Cansino, and Arriel Millermon will all be competing at the Regional Tennis tournament at Texas State University in San Marcos on April 21 and 22.
