GOLIAD – The Goliad Tigerettes will send five athletes to compete in the Class 2A division of the UIL State Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday at Austin’s Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Goliad’s Avery Zamzow will be involved in four events - the 200-meter dash, long jump and the 400 and 800 relays.

Also on the 400 relay team will be Ashtin Zamzow, Demari Ellis and Alexius Perry. Carlee Howard and Kristie Coles will be the alternates.

Others on the 800 relay team will be Ashtin Zamzow, Perry and Howard. Ellis and Katy Salziger will be the alternates.

The Tigerettes’ 400 relay team enters the state meet with fourth-fastest qualifying time of 48.84 seconds. Tatum (47.95), Jefferson (48.14) and Rosebud-Lott (48.67) enter the meet with faster regional times.

Other teams in the 400 relay are Salado (49.56), Omaha Paul Pewitt (49.82), Tulia (49.84), Sonora (50.01) and San Antonio Cole (50.11).

The 400 relay will start Saturday at noon.

The Tigerettes set a Region IV-2A meet record with their time of 1:43.50 in the 800 relay. Goliad had the third-fastest qualifying time in the event behind Tatum (1:41.56) and Omaha Paul Pewitt (1:43.44). Other teams in the event are Sonora (1:45.24), Breckenridge (1:45.38), Dallas Life School Oak Cliff (1:45.83), Salado (1:45.92) and Blanco (1:46.84).

The 800 relay is scheduled to start Saturday at 1:25 p.m.

Avery Zamzow ranks fifth out of the qualifers in the 200 with a time of 25.54 behind Hearne’s Re’Jana Ellison (25.42), Jefferson’s Destiny Carr (25.43), Dallas Hampton Prep’s Jaelyn Pettit (25.50) and San Antonio Cole’s Jasmine Brinson (25.52). Also in the event are Rosebud-Lott’s Teandria Taylor (25.58), Schulenburg’s Sarah Walker (25.62), Tulia’s Markeyla Hicks (26.04) and Littlefield’s Latonya Jones (26.46).

The 200 dash is scheduled to begin Saturday at 2:25 p.m.

Avery Zamzow was one of three athletes in the long jump to over 18 feet at the regional meets. She had a mark of 18-0 3/4, which is the third-best regional jump behind Sonora’s Jacinda Sanchez (18-3 1/2) and Omaha Paul Pewitt’s Chadnee Knox (18-2 1/4). Others in the event are Linden-Kildare’s Shardai Love (17-10 3/4), Rogers’ Lauren Bedrich (17-10 3/4), Bushland’s Sarah Climer (17-8 3/4), Centerville’s Kayla Brewer (17-7), Ingram Moore’s Zoie Lalonde (17-4 3/4) and Leonard’s Brittyn Rushing (17-4).

The long jump will start Friday at 4:30 p.m.
