Four Lady Eagles qualify for region

YORKTOWN – The Pettus Lady Eagles finished in a tie for third place with Flatonia in the overall team standings in last week’s area meet and advanced four individual competitors to the Region IV meet on Friday and Saturday at Converse Judson.

Lady Eagle Anna Elder won the long jump competition with a leap of 17-2. Elder was second in the triple jump with a good effort of 34-6 at the area meet. Elder won the gold in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.18. She also won gold in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.49.

Madi Garza captured a trip to the Region IV meet by placing second in the high jump, clearing the bar at 4-6. Miranda Arrisola was fourth in the long, tough 3,200-meter run with a time of 14:08.19.

Hana Kruger placed third in the 800-meter run in 2:43.40. Kruger also picked up a third place finish in the 1,600-meter run as she crossed the finish line in the metric mile in 6:14.52.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Lady Eagles (Destiny Carrillo, Tristian Moore, Madi Garza and Elder) placed fifth.

On the boys’ side of the meet, Collin Hargrove placed fifth in the 3,200-meter run and then captured a sixth place finish in the 1,600-meter run for the Eagles.

The top four finishers in each event advance to the Region IV meet and a chance to go on to the state meet in Austin.
