Lupe Martinez died in the Austwell house fire Saturday night, June 1. His son and his son’s family were not in the house at the time of the fire.
Currently, Courtney Lenhart is hosting the family in her house. She said she’s known them for a long time and considers them part of her family.
“They are trying to get started with a bank – getting a home they can purchase,” Lenhart said.
“They are working on getting on their feet again,” she added.
Ismael Martinez, Karen Williams and their children Audrey, 9, and Mason, 10-and-a-half are slowly putting their lives back together.
In the meantime, Lenhart and numerous people have come to the family’s aid with planning a Ismael Martinez Benefit fundraiser.
Following the annual Tivoli Fourth of July parade, which begins at 10 a.m., barbecue brisket, rice, beans, pickles and onions will be offered at Lion’s Club Park for $8 a plate. Also, a bake sale and drinks will be offered.
Serving begins at 11 a.m.
All proceeds go to the Ismael Martinez family.
