Dehnert captures gold at CCISD ‘Spring Fling’ tennis tournament

CORPUS CHRISTI —Trojan Eric Dehnert captured first place at the annual Corpus Christi ISD Tennis Tournament this past Saturday.

Dehnert went 5-0 in the tournament, defeating Breedlove (Corpus Christi Carroll) in the finals, 6-3, 6-2.

“Dehnert played exceptionally well throughout the tournament, winning over 60 games and losing only 16,” said coach John Kidd.

“Nobody took more than three games in any set from Eric.”

Dehnert, seeded No. 8 in the tournament, easily defeated DeLaCruz (C.C. Ray), the number 1 seed in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 6-2. In the semifinals, played on Saturday, Dehnert defeated Ortiz (Flour Bluff ) 6-2, 6-2. In the championship match, Dehnert defeated the No. 2 seed, Breedlove from Carroll, 6-3, 6-2.

Other Trojan notables were Cori Moore, Graham Traylor and Tyler Stewart. Moore placed sixth in girls’ singles, while Traylor and Stewart placed sixth in boys’ doubles. Both parties went 3-2 in the tournament.

Also participating were Roberto Reyna and Colton Wren (doubles) and Cori Sparks and Samantha Ramon (doubles). Both doubles teams went 1-1 in the tournament.

The Trojans will travel to Kingsville on Friday to play in the Brahma Invitational.
