CALALLEN – The Lady Trojan varsity softball squad took a 1-0 lead in the fourth but could not hold on as the Calallen Ladycats went on to a 4-1 victory over the Beeville girls on Tuesday night.

The Lady Trojans scored their lone run in the top of the fourth as Andrea Briseno powered a shot over the fence for a home run and a 1-0 Beeville lead.

The Ladycats answered right back with a three-run rally in the home half of that same inning to grab the lead away for the Beeville girls.

A single run in the fifth by Calallen concluded the scoring as both pitchers kept the bats quiet the rest of the way.

Calallen won the well-played contest 4-1.

“We played well on defense, but did not hit well with runners in scoring position,” said Lady Trojan head coach Jose Flores.

The Lady Trojans committed one error over the seven innings of play on Tuesday night.

The Beeville girls finished with six hits on the night.

Rebecca De Los Santos went 2-3 with a walk to reach base three times in the game as the Lady Trojan Leadoff hitter. Taylor Castillo was 2-4 in the game. Briseno had the big round-tripper for her one hit in three plate appearances. Lynn Puente went 1-2 on the night for the Lady Trojans.

Theresa Amador went the distance in the circle for the Beeville girls, walking six, striking out five Calallen hitters, allowing nine base hits and three earned runs.

The Calallen pitcher struck out 13 Lady Trojans over the seven inning contest and gave up just three walks.

The Beeville girls finished their season on Friday night when they played host to the Tuloso-Midway Cherokees.
