“We made a lot of mental mistakes defensively, especially in the fourth inning. We did a better job of putting the ball in play, but again, we weren’t able to put together a big inning,” said Eagle head coach Anthony Ramirez.
“With two games left, our goal is to finish the season strong.”
The visitors scraped together two runs in the top of the first, but the Lady Eagles cut the deficit in half with a single run in the bottom of the first. The Lady Eagles then tied up the contest with another single run in the second frame. It was all knotted at 2-2, heading to the third inning.
The Lady Bulldogs caught fire at the plate in the third inning and moved four runners across home plate to take control of the game. Five more runs for the visitors came in during the fourth. Through four full innings, the Bulldogs were on top 11-2.
The visitors got one more run and then stopped the Pettus offense in the bottom of the fifth to capitalize on the “mercy” rule.
Lady Eagle Tristian Moore was perfect at the plate with two hits, including a triple, in two at bats with one run scored. Abby Cantu was 1-2 while Ashlynn Schauer reached on an error and scored a run. Brittany Trevino also reached on a TR miscue.
The Lady Eagles were in Yorktown on Friday night to meet the Kittens. On Tuesday evening, the Pettus girls will wrap up their season with home game against Runge.
