The big question last week was “would the Banquete Bulldogs give the Bobcats a district fight like a year ago?”
Friday night, the answer was a resounding “No.” The Bobcats bludgeoned the Bulldogs with 523 total offensive yards, holding Banquete to only 136, and the Bobcats were on their way to a 55-7 victory.
The Cats struck first with Travis Quintanilla hurling a 53-yard touchdown pass to Dana Franklin.
The Bulldogs snuck a touchdown to tie it up at 7-7, but were never heard from again.
That’s when the Bobcat scoring machine started rolling. Isaiah Perez bounded into the end zone from 21 yards out, and JB Brown visited Touchdownland from 9 yards out to make the score 21-7, going into the second period.
It was a quiet second quarter with the only points coming from a 23-yard pass from Quintanilla to Franklin, making it a 27-7 ball game at the half.
Quintanilla found James Durst to start the third quarter off on a 15-yard touchdown pass. After that, Perez and Brown both recorded their second touchdowns of the night. Perez from 1 yard and Brown trotting in from 10 yards out, to make the score 48-7 going into the final period.
Quintanilla, who was 16 of 25 for 359 yards on the night, found Johnathan Rosas on a 30-yard touchdown strike to put the game in the win column for the Bobcats.
Tyler Castellano led the rushing charge with 65 yards on six carries. Tops in receiving went to Dana Franklin with three catches for 103 yards.
The Bobcats return home to face the Kingsville Academy Lions this Friday night. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. in Jack Sportsman Bobcat Stadium.
