Beeville Bee-Picayune parade entry, Fall 1971
The first of the photos went online Monday – a shot of downtown Beeville taken some years ago.

It was quickly followed by another photo – a parade float by this newspaper.

These two photos have faded into our online archives replaced by additional historic photos as part of our newest online adventure – Tales of Old Bee County.

This project began with one simple task.

“We really ought to scan some of these old photos we have tucked away.”

We started with a small stack of photos but then found more in a small, gray filing cabinet. Still more were uncovered in a rolling cart under a desk and then more tucked away in another drawer.

We thought we were done. That was, until one intrepid employee scampered into the attic and retrieved those stored there.

Well, we aren’t through yet with the scanning, but we figured... why not share them with the rest of the world?

So, for at least the next year, we will be publishing them online, two per day. A select few will be reprinted in the paper.

Some of the photos are from the days of the horse-drawn buggy. Others are more recent with residents in bell-bottoms and brightly colored shirts. (Most are black and white, so you will have to use your imagination on the “brightly colored” part.)

Whatever the year, they are part of this county’s history.

We have information on some of them. Others, the information has been lost to time. Or so we might think.

Some of you out there might know who it is in the photo, which is part of the reason we are doing this.

Please, just post a comment if you know anything about the photo. Even small bits of information add up.

There are links to the photos on our homesite or directly at www.mySouTex.com/tobc.
