The CBC Cultural and Educational Programs Committee will present Emanuel Bean in a performance titled “Converse” at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Gertrude R. Jones Fine Arts Auditorium.

The performance is free and open to the public. The presentation will be an one-act performance by Texas Poet Laureate nominee Outspoken Bean. Converse is a rendering of performance poetry and audience dialogue interaction. The blunt nature of Bean’s conversation is an honest balance to the insight and construction to his poems.

A graduate of Prairie View A&M University, Bean began performing spoken-word poetry in 2005. In 2006, Outspoken earned spots on San Antonio’s and Houston’s Poetry’s Slam Team. In 2008, he created and coached Prairie View’s first slam team, winning the number one title in Region 12 and going on to be ranked number eight in the country. Outspoken performs regionally and hosts workshops in Houston; presently, he is head coach for Houston’s Youth Slam “Meta-FOUR.”
