United Methodist Church, Karnes City-Kenedy: Something to think about

Today is Ash Wednesday, marking the begging of Lent. Some will give up chocolate, or maybe Dr. Pepper for the time between now and Easter. One thinks they need to give up something they enjoy in order to suffer and be better able to celebrate Easter. What if that is not exactly true? To give up something just because it is the expected thing to do does nothing. To give up something of value to help one remember and appreciate that sins are forgiven is good. But what is better is to repent sins. Repentance isn't just confessing, it's acknowledging the sin to God and then turning away from that sin. Turning 180.

The problem is one says they are sorry for the sins they have committed with no intention to change. It is like installing a "fake" alarm system to scare away robbers. There is even a company that sells these things on Ebay, a fake camera with a bought police dispatch sticker warning sign kit. We can not take that chance with one’s soul, with eternity. Repentance is the doorway to the spiritual life, to life with God.

Ash Wednesday services are this evening at the United Methodist Church, Karnes City-Kenedy. A Taize prayer service is at 5:30 p.m. followed by a Traditional service at 7 p.m. Come. Accepting the forgiveness God has for you is truly life changing. The church is located at 201 N Esplanade, Karnes City.
