After Jesus was crucified, the disciples were fearful. Jesus and his disciples had been a team and the disciples were now without their leader. According to the Holy Gospel in John chapter 20: "On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, 'Peace be with you.' When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, 'Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.' And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them,'Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld."

John's goal in writing this gospel was so that others who were not witnesses to the Risen Christ would believe and thereby have life everlasting. Jesus was letting the disciples and everyone else know that it would all be okay. The Holy Spirit would be with Christ's followers as they were to go out and spread the good news. Believers are a team and all have that same goal. That doesn't mean we should lock ourselves in as the disciples had done, but rather we should reach out and strive for that same goal for Jesus had said, "As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you".

God of grace, as we go about the toils of each day, keep our eyes on the empty tomb and the promise that Christ brings. Guide us, O Lord, to live our lives so that others will know that promise too. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Worship services at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Runge begin at 8:30 a.m. Sunday mornings. Pastor Randal Bruno and the congregation invite you to join us in praising and worshiping our Risen Savior.
