On Nov. 26, 2012 at the CCD building at Our Lady of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, a new Loma Alta Cemetery Association was formed and an election for officers was held: President: Stormy Rossett; Vice President: Nacho Casarez; Secretary: Gus De La Garza; Treasurer: Nando Salinas and Sgt. of Arms: Gilbert Puente.
The new Loma Alta Cemetery Association is a non-profit organization. The selling of plots, barbecues and donations are the way we raise money to maintain the cemetery, in which nothing has been done in a long time.
In 1983 the original association was formed, which lasted only a few years. There has not been a board, meetings or elections for 25 years or more.
Mr. Salinas states that he and only he is in charge of selling and collecting of plots. He claims he is the agent of the cemetery. The definition of the word agent is a person authorized to act and work on another’s behalf (the association).
We have had two meetings and the Loma Alta Cemetery Association invited Mr. Salinas to come to our meetings to work with us and he has refused both times. We asked him for the records and paperwork and he said he burned them. We would like Mr. Salinas to join us in meetings. He can be the agent, but he has to give us reports on how many plots he has sold on full or partial payments. People are asking a lot of questions and we can not give them a true answer. The association has nothing personal against Mr. Salinas. We just want him to join the association and work with us.
If nothing is done in the near future, without the help of Mr. Salinas, the association will not be responsible for plots that have been sold. He has all the information records.
We need to bring young people into the association so they can continue the maintenance and up keep of our cemetery. We need to pass the baton. We will finish again by saying the Loma Alta Cemetery is a non-profit organization, no person or persons should make a profit.
