Thursday night was the last football game of the year for the Lions JV team and they didn’t waste the excitement as they would pull out the victory in the last 2 minutes of the game as Derrick Wilson would come back from a injury in the first half and hit Chris Pena on the slant route and race 65 yards for the score.

Brandon Castillo would run in the 2 pt conversion to give the Lions the win 30-22.

Castillo got the Lions on the board first in the first quarter with a 16 yard run and Wilson would run the 2 pt conversion in. Justin Mireles ran the second touchdown of the quarter in from 19 yards out and Wilson again added the 2pt conversion and the Lions led 16-0 after the 1st quarter.

Yorktown would get two td’s in the 2nd quarter. Mireles would score the Lions 3rd TD in the 2nd quarter from 16 yards out but the 2 pt run would be stopped and this left the game at 22-16 Lions.

The Lions would have to regroup in the third as Wilson was out for the third quarter and the offense stalled.

Yorktown tied it up at the end of the third quarter.

Brian Barnes would have the two biggest plays of the game as he knocked down the 2pt pass and he would pick off the pass at the Lions 25 yard line late in the 4th quarter which would set up the late TD pass from Wilson to Pena. With the victory the JV finished off the season with a fine 7-2 record.

“Great job to all those who played JV football this year,” coaches said.
