The School Bond election in Kenedy is coming up quickly.
I find this bond election so important to the future of our education system here in Kenedy; I wanted to share my thoughts.
With the blessings of the Eagle Ford shale, the oil companies are footing over 50 percent of the tab for upgrading and securing our Kenedy schools.
It would be a shame to let this opportunity pass us by.
Our portion, as homeowners, averages about 20 dollars a month.
The first thing that struck me is the fence around the elementary school…
After the tragedy at Sandy Hook, should we not make every precaution to ensure the safety of our most vulnerable citizens.
The main part of the bond pays for a new High School and Middle School, new band room, science wing, cafeteria and revamping the gym.
Last week’s Bluebonnet Coronation I attended, the chair in the auditorium broke right out from under someone’s seat.
The bond also includes a new auditorium.
As a developer and builder here, I was also struck by how out of code our school buildings are.
Is it not worth a 20-dollar bill to improve the safety and security of our children, not to mention creating an environment that may spawn our educators to seek out our city, and improve overall our education system?
I urge you to consider the pamphlet handed out to all residents.
I will be voting “yes” for the new schools and improvements,
I urge you to vote “yes,” if not for yourself, for the future of Kenedy ISD, its students, educators, staff and administrators.
