She has a two-year average of 99.45. Michala has been a cheerleader and a member of the Chess Club, NJHS, band, and Student Council. Outside of school, she plays softball, participates in 4-H, and is a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Michala was a member of the cross country, basketball, volleyball, and track and field teams. She won first in UIL calculator, received the Outstanding 4-H Leadership Award, and was selected to the Eighth-Grade Wall of Fame.
As a seventh-grader, she was selected as the Most Valuable Player in basketball and volleyball and as the Most Improved Player in cross country. Michala will present the welcome at the eighth- grade awards program on May 30.
The second-highest ranked eighth-grader is Megan Albrecht. She is the daughter of Robert and Alethea Albrecht.
At GMS, Megan has been in band, Student Council and athletics. She has served as yearbook editor, student trainer, and NJHS historian. Megan is a lector at Immaculate Conception Church, she is a member of Texas Wheel Spinners and Crank Twisters (tractor club), FFA, Hermann Sons dance, and the Kilgore Cemetery Association. She also is learning judo.
Megan was selected to the Eighth-Grade Wall of Fame, won the history essay contest, took first in UIL editorial writing and oral reading and received the Outstanding Woodwind award in band. She has an average of 99.15 and she will present the benediction at the awards program.
Toni Jo Garcia, the daughter of Paul and Maresa Garcia, is the third-highest ranked student. She is a member of band and athletics, is the NJHS treasurer and is in Student Council, where she serves as eigh-th-grade class president. Outside of school, she participates in ballet folklorico and the softball travel team.
Toni Jo was selected to region band this year and last, won the Director’s Award in seventh grade, and was chosen as the Outstanding Woodwind this year. She will be a varsity mascot next school year, and she is also Miss Zaragoza.
Toni Jo has an average of 98.85 and she will present the Invocation at the awards program.
The fourth-highest ranked student is Carly Shockley. She has an average of 98.75, and she will lead the Pledge of Allegiance at the program. Carly is the daughter of Carl and Kimberly Shockley. Carly has participated in athletics, NJHS, Student Council, band and UIL. She is a member of ASKM 4-H and took part in Relay for Life.
Carly won first place in UIL dictionary skills the last two years, made region band as a seventh- grader and was chosen Outstanding Woodwind in 2012.
