The Goliad Tigers are picked to finish second in District 15-3A Division I by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine.

Goliad, which went 7-5 last season and reached the Class 2A Division I area playoffs, return eight offensive and six defensive starters.

The magazine lists quarterback Nate Kowalik, running back Ty Ross, wide receiver Desmond Perry, guard Irwin Franklin, linebacker Joseph Burns and defensive tackle Hunter Rodriguez as players to watch.

Kowalik transferred from Hallettsville, where he threw for 3,529 yards and 41 touchdowns last season.

Hallettsville, which reached the Class 2A Division I regional finals last year and finished with a 13-1 record, is picked to win District 15-3A Division I. The Brahmas return six offensive and six defensive starters from last year’s team.

George West is picked to finish third in the district while Mathis is pegged to take fourth and San Antonio Brooks is predicted to finish fifth.

The Tigers open the season Aug. 29 at home against the Victoria St. Joseph Flyers.
