But once Kowalik found his timing with his new receivers, the Tigers rolled up big yardage en route to scoring three touchdowns.
The Goliad defense also looked impressive as it limited Taft to one score.
Joseph Burns had a touchdown run for the Tigers’ first series of plays before Taft responded with a score of its own on its first series.
Goliad’s first-team offense moved up and down the field with Kowalik throwing to a variety of receivers. Kowalik scored on a keeper on the Tigers’ final series.
Goliad also got a touchdown pass from John Dorsett to Ruben Almaguer during the second team’s turn to take the field.
The Tigers will host Karnes City in another controlled scrimmage Thursday. The junior varsities will compete at 5 p.m. before the varsities face at 7 p.m. Goliad opens the season Aug. 29 at home against Victoria St. Joseph.
