The earlier members start their record book, the easier it will be to complete. The online setup is made to be used year round. Members can go online now, create their accounts or log into their previous accounts and begin on their own.
The website is http://4hreports.com/index.aspx. Those who showed an animal in the 2013 Goliad County Fair must turn in a record book to be eligible to show again in 2014.
The 2013 horsemanship school will be held Sunday, June 16, and Monday June 17, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Bee County Expo Center arena.
The program is only for 4-H members and will provide education on horse safety, general riding practices, equipment and problem solving and how to improve overall confidence and ability when working with horses.
Teri Antilley, horse program specialist in the Department of Animal Science, runs the program.
Participants will work for eight hours a day and cover specific topics as safety, types of reins, horse theft awareness and bits, stopping and backing, rollbacks and turnarounds, gaits and leads, speed control, simple lead changes and flying lead changes, showmanship and ground safety.
Cost is $50 per person.

Livestock courses offered
The Texas 4-H Livestock Ambassador program provides high school-aged 4-H members the opportunity to develop and practice advanced leadership skills related to mentoring other youth, and to become advocates for animal agriculture.
Programs will be offered at Texas A&M University in College Station on July 15-18 with a cost is $200 and at Texas Tech University in Lubbock on July 22-24 with a cost of $150.
Following is the selection criteria:
• senior-aged (14-18) 4-H youth that have exhibited a superior level of ambition regarding their livestock projects;
• students with a profound interest in animal science and animal production;
• students who have shown advanced leadership qualities and a willingness to help others;
• county extension agent approval;
• top 25 percent class rank.

Aug. 10 - Awards banquet
