Jim was born in Goliad on May 21, 1953, to Anne Pettus and Charles William Bode Sr.
Jim was preceded in death by his father; his paternal grandparents, E.W. and Setna Rode Bode, of Fredericksburg; and maternal grandparents, J.E. "Ed" and Louise Miller Pettus of Goliad.
In addition to his mother, Jim is survived by his wife, Donna Shelton Bode; children Jason Urban and wife Kristi of Fayetteville, Charles Pettus "Charlie", James Pettus "Jed," and Cheyanne Leigh, all of Goliad; a brother, Bill and wife Judy, also of Goliad; and a sister, Sarah Bode Turner of Victoria, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jim was a cowboy and lifelong rancher in Goliad County, carrying on a tradition begun by his great-grandfather J.E. Pettus and lovingly passed on to his children. Jim will be remembered by all who knew him as someone who respected the land and loved his family. The outdoors and hunting was a passion he shared with many. Those who knew him really well appreciated his dry sense of humor.
