I attended the Goliad City Council meeting on April 17 and listened with alarm as Councilwoman Liz Holsey made startling revelations about what occurred during the City Council’s closed session on March 18.
While the other council members sat stone-faced, Councilwoman Holsey related how she was interrogated and threatened during the closed session. In her remarks, she made a convincing case that the closed session and its activities were illegal. The rest of the Council could hardly wait to adjourn and depart after Councilwoman Holsey finished speaking.
I say that even if the behind-the-scenes antics that occurred in this closed session weren’t illegal, they appear to be highly unethical. There’s something very wrong with our city government when Mayor Pro Tem Ed Carter (Mayor Harvey wasn’t present), the other three council members and their newly-hired City Attorney gang up on and threaten one little lady.
If you recall, Councilwoman Holsey received a threatening letter earlier that she turned over to law enforcement. People who care about Goliad and its future should let Councilwoman Holsey know that we support her and reject this sort of behavior at City Hall.
