County officials need to wear dancing shoes

It is always interesting to recognize whose ox is gored by the truth. Accordingly, I stand by my claim that both the hokey pokey and the hanky panky are alive and active right here in River City.

As a Summary Court Judge many years ago, I learned and still understand the legality and requirement for executive sessions. Just as importantly, I learned to recognize the abuse of authority when executive sessions were called when not necessary or in an attempt to obscure or cloud an issue.

Persons who have a personal ax to grind have traditionally been quick to demean those who identify the abuse of authority. Those who speak out against misuse of authority frequently do so influenced by the desire for better government and prudent expenditure of taxpayer dollars.

These actions in the interests of the entire community clash with those seeking boss approval, employment tenure and approval of court house politicians.

A message is appropriate for those self-serving individuals. If the shoe fits – WEAR IT.

John Caldwell, Goliad County
