GOLIAD – The Goliad City Council unanimously approved the selection of 15 applicants to serve on a citizens advisory committee to study the feasibility of the City of Goliad forming its own police department.

During Tuesday night's meeting, city administrator Larry Zermeno said he would like the group to meet within a week.

The 15 approved were Hernan Jaso, Michael Martinez, Peggy Fonseca, Ruben San Miguel, Daniel San Miguel, Dannie Wade, Kathy Peters, Liz Branch, Ellie Carter, Ramiro Rubio, Mary Jane Martin, John Friedrichs II, Raymond Starr, Charles Childress and Cheryl Worley.

Candidates must reside within the Goliad city limits, however, Roy Boyd, assistant chief of the Victoria Police Department, will be considered to serve on the committee even though he does not live in Goliad.

Councilman Lionel Garcia made the motion to approve the 15 applicants and councilman Alfred Perez seconded the motion.
