Christoval Lee Garza, 38, of Goliad was found at approximately 5 a.m. by a nearby resident, according to the Goliad County Sheriff's Office.
GCSO investigator John Pape said the man sustained blunt trauma to his head and estimated he had been dead since approximately midnight. Pape said Garza could have slipped and fell on a nearby concrete slab, but said homicide had not been ruled out.
"He possibly could have stumbled and hit his head," Sheriff Kirby Brumby said. "He had a head wound. It looked like he was trying to crawl to some chairs."
Brumby said an autopsy was to be performed Friday.
