GOLIAD – Alfred A. Gebbert, 96, of Goliad died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013.

He was born June 24, 1917 in the Kilgore Community in Goliad County to William Henry and Emma Schmidt Gebbert.

He was baptized at St. Andrews Lutheran church in Kilgore and has been a member of St. John’s Lutheran church in Goliad since the early 1940’s.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Mary Lea Windberg Gebbert; sons Larrell (Bertie) Gebbert of Victoria and Aaron Coy Gebbert of Seadrift; daughters Erma Jean (Alan) Huddleston of Marble Falls and Cathy (James) O’Connor of Victoria; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; nine great-setpgrandchildren; and three great-great- stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Hertha Ziemann, Emma Atkeison, Alma Flossel; half-sisters, Emelia Dentler and Erna Schultz; and brothers, Edwin, Willie, Fritz and Eugene Gebbert.

Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Grace Funeral Home Goliad with funeral services on Sat. Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. at St John’s Lutheran Church in Goliad. Rev. Randy Bruno will officiate with burial to follow in the Kilgore cemetery. Pallbearers will be sons, Larrell and Coy Gebbert; grandson, Jeff Gebbert; and great grandsons, Paul and Luke Gebbert and Austin Means. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, Traci Huddleston, Vicki Means and Kimberly Carr; and great-granddaughters, Katie Young and Autumn Means.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church. Grace Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
