Politics and Americans

We are always talking about how divided Washington is, how our elected officials cannot work together and are voting just on party lines. I feel politicians should do what is best for the majority of the people they were elected to represent, regardless of party.

My name is Raul “Rudy” Garcia, a Hispanic Republican, U.S. Marine Vietnam Veteran and a small business owner. I attended the Commissioners Court meeting Monday, Oct. 28, and, after hearing on how the court voted on the veterans service officer, it made me think of Washington politics.

I was there to voice my concerns on the employment process. Did ALL candidates get the same consideration on their qualifications? Did the county get the best person to represent the veterans?

To Mr. Tony Ferguson, our new VSO, I would like to say “welcome aboard.”

In closing, I would like to say: our country has enough problems; we need to learn to work together. One party does not have all the best answers or all the best people. We are ALL Americans; that is the only party we should consider all the time. To our elected officials, I say: do the right thing and not just the party thing. May God continue to bless the United States of America.
