Mrs. Thomas was born to Morris and Bessie Mae Goodlow Boales in Skidmore. She attended public school there and was a lifelong member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. She married Tom Dean Thomas in 1939 in Skidmore and moved to Alice in 1946 where they spent the next 40 years, moving back to Skidmore in 1987.
Mrs. Thomas was instrumental in re-establishing the Saint Paul A.M.E. Church in Skidmore. She was a delegate to the General Conference in Los Angeles, Calif., a great historian, storyteller, cook, and firm believer in education.
She was preceded in death by her son, Harold Dean Thomas.
Survivors include two daughters, Faye Thomas Harris of Beeville and Rachel Jane Thomas of Skidmore; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 11 great great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Treviño Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be conducted Thursday afternoon, Aug. 2, at 2 o’clock at Treviño Funeral Home with Rev. Regina Burks officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Skidmore.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Harris, Harold Thomas Jr., Brian Kearney, Trey Thomas, Brandon Hughes and Robert Hudson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. J.A. Ferrell, Rev. Dallas Baldwin, Rev. Napoleon Williams, Rev. Urel Green and Rev. Lloyd Chenault.
