BEEVILLE – The Lady Trojan varsity soccer squad continued its march to the postseason with a dominating 7-0 victory over the Southside Lady Cardinals on Thursday afternoon.

The hosts truly dominated. The ball rarely got over midfield and the two Beeville goal keepers, Carmen Rojas and Randi Maupin, could have taken some light reading material out on the field with them to keep themselves occupied.

Victoria Elizalde got the Beeville scoring started with a goal at the 32:30 mark of the first 40 minutes. Her second goal came about 20 minutes later as she beat the keeper in a one-on-one confrontation.

Tori Muñoz made it 3-0 on a penalty kick just a four minutes later as she got bumped off the ball with a hip check that sent her sprawling in the penalty box. Muñoz found the corner of the net for the relatively easy score.

Freshman MacKenzie Harvey took a pass from Heather McKinney and beat the Southside keeper for a 4-0 lead with left just 43 seconds in the first half.

The Beeville girls scored three times in the second half. Anisa Cantu took a pass from Elizalde in close and put the ball in the back of the net for a 5-0 advantage.

Muñoz got her second goal of the game as she powered a kick into the Cardinal keeper that deflected into the goal. The final score came off a corner kick by Elizalde to Heather McKinney. McKinney placed the ball into the back of the goal on a nice header to finish the scoring with 10:45 left in the contest.

The Lady Trojan defense at midfield was excellent all day. Taylor Castillo, Sydney Wesson and Claire McKinney along with midfielders, Niki Longoria, Cantu, Celeste Contreras, Muñoz and Kennedy Treviño kept the visitors caged all game long.

The Lady Trojans played Harlandale on Tuesday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium in their regular season finale. The Beeville girls have third place wrapped up in district already and will compete in the playoffs.
