The City of Kenedy along with the Kenedy 4B Corporation has begun preparing for the 2013 Summer Recreation Program for students who reside within the KISD School District and/or whose parents reside in and/or pay KISD school taxes.

The program is under the direction of Larry Kiesling, former retired high school principle of Kenedy and Chairman of the Kenedy 4B Corporation Board of Directors.

In 2013, the Summer Sports Program will be coordinated by Manuel DeLaGarza, Head Cross Country Coach at St. Joseph High School in Victoria.

Like previous years, the program is free, the program will have experience professional instructors whom are high school coaches or attending college to become a high school coach.

This summer the program plans to enter athletes in summer competitions of volleyball, track and field and possibly softball along with a summer camp in volleyball and football. Depending on enrollment numbers, a basketball camp for boys and girls may be offered. The program will run from the end of May thru end of July. Activities will be scheduled according to availability and subject to cancellation if attendance for each sport/activity is not being maintain by the athletes. Water and Gatorade will be provided during practice/competitions. Parents may contribute and/or volunteer with this program but it is not required. While the City of Kenedy is sponsoring the program, 4B is still looking for businesses in Kenedy to sponsor/donate with competition uniforms, water, Gatorade, and any travel cost should the athlete qualify for playoff competition.

More information can be obtained by calling Larry Kiesling at 830-583-2342 or 210-289-6144, Manuel De La Garza at 830-583-4387 or City Hall at 830-583-2230. Registration Forms will be sent to all Kenedy schools and should be returned by May 15 to the Kenedy School office or drop off the form at Kenedy City Hall. This year the program will concentrate on incoming 6th graders thru high school athletes. Competitions will be held around the local community and a complete schedule will be made available later after registration is completed.
