BEEVILLE – Ruben Corkill will be the foreman of the July term of the Bee County Grand Jury.

The 14-person panel was appointed recently by District Judge Joel Johnson to serve until a new grand jury is seated in January 2014.

Sonya Marie Garza was named assistant foreman of the grand jury.

Others who will serve for the next six months are Santos Solis Jr., Guadalupe Garcia, Barbara Lou Fox, Adriana Guerrero, Bill Rivas, Jason Peepas, Moses Charles, Graciela Garza, Peggy Gooden and Viola Autry.

Alternates appointed to serve in the absence of one of the regular members are Norma Parker and Adrian Lugo.

New grand juries are appointed twice a year. They hear evidence in criminal cases and decide if prosecutors have enough evidence against the defendants to proceed with a trial.

A grand jury indictment is not an indication of guilt or innocence. That is determined later by a trial jury.
