The wind sculpture at Jack Pace Park
A turk’s cap flower by the bench in the butterfly garden
A boulder decorated by a plaque naming the park
The seat and back of a metal bench
Dewdrops hang from a tree branch.
THE PACE is slow at Jack Bace Park, at East Corpus Christi and South Buchanan streets. In the early morning, it is a study of dewdrops and dawn. Snuggled in the northwest corner is a park within a park, the Margaret Moser Butterfly Garden, with flora to fit the taste of any butterfly. Drops of moisture decorate both branch and bench. At the still moment just after a late summer sunrise, even the wind sculpture is motionless. In today’s frenetic lifestyle, there is a lesson to be learned, taught by a quiet bench and butterflies.
